HISTORY AND CONCEPT
CLUB VEN ACA is located on the north shore of Lake Atitlan in the western highlands of Guatemala. This lake owes its breathtaking beauty to a cataclysmic volcanic convulsion 84,000 years ago which formed this “caldera” lake whose southern side is now guarded by three imposing volcanoes – Atitlan, Toliman, and San Pedro. Lake Atitlan is also one of the deepest lakes in the world. At over 1,000 feet, its most profound depths have never been sounded, giving Lake Atitlan its unique cobalt-blue/green color and adding to the lake’s mysterious beauty. Not surprisingly, Lake Atitlan is considered to be a sacred site in Maya mythology. BRAVE NEW WORLD author, Aldous Huxley, compared Lake Atitlan to Lake Como, describing it as “Como with the additional embellishment of immense volcanoes. It really is too much of a good thing”, he said in his travel book , BEYOND THE MEXIQUE BAY.
Today, as for centuries, the shore of Lake Atitlan is dotted by 13 villages. The natives are of Kakchiquel and Tzutuhil descent, whose roots stem back to the ancient Maya, rulers of Mesoamerica before the arrival of the Spaniards. The indigenous inhabitants maintain the customs and traditions of their fore bearers and continue to preserve their culture through their rituals and art. The woman are weavers of the first order, a craft handed down from Ixchel, the premiere Maya female deity.
The site for Club Ven Aca, between Santa Cruz la Laguna and el Jaibalito, was chosen for its spectacular views of our 3 volcanoes. Only from our unique vantage point, can one see the twin peaks of the volcano Atitlan, with the volcano Toliman behind them and flanked on the west by the volcano of San Pedro. The Cerro de Oro, another volcanic formation, emerges from the skirts of Atitlan volcano in the foreground. This is a panorama that is unparalleled on the planet. Breathtaking!
“Far from the Madding Crowd”, Club Ven Aca can only be accessed by boat, giving it an enviable sense of privacy and seclusion. Even so, there is a reliable water taxi service, passing every 30 minutes, shuttling tourists and locals, back and forth, to their different village destinations along this side of the lake.
The Club Ven Aca project was lovingly conceived, designed and manifested to provide our visitors with an exceptional lake experience.
The owner, who has had a deep connection to the lake since early childhood, is now able to share her vision of “the most beautiful lake in the world” with others. With the exception of our amethyst, jade, and rose-hued rock walls, which were quarried on the property – every other element was brought here by boat. The Spanish colonial architecture is an expression of understated elegance – hand-carved cypress columns and beams, hand-made ceramic roof tiles, custom ironwork – all created by the finest artisans of Antigua, Guatemala.
Project Club Ven Aca includes a full service fine-dining restaurant, high seat and swim-up bar, and cocktail lounge. We have a varied international menu, a thoughtful wine list, and specialty cocktails.
We also have the absolute nicest pool on the lakefront. The horizon of the infinity pool melds with the lake which then meets the volcanoes. This breathtaking view can also be experienced as one soaks in the integrated Jacuzzi.
The project also includes a luxuriously appointed house which is available for nightly or weekly rentals.
